Firing the Anagama in Japan

The John Dix kiln where I spent a month making pottery and firing his anagama with him is located in the village of Ogami, in the hills surrounding the rice paddies of Sasayama. We were there after the rice harvest, and these are the sheaves drying.

The Pottery Studio is the ground floor of the building on the left. The upstairs was a tatami room where the 4 of us slept lined up like sardines!
